Ep. 16: Greece - Yassas!

Kalí méra & welcome back to our blog! After the successful border crossing into Greece we head into the direction of Thessaloniki. First to-do is grocery shopping and we find a well-known supermarket, which is everywhere around Europe: Lidl. With astonishment we note that vegetables and bread are sold in supermarkets, one of the things you consider as normal at home but which get your attention again while travelling. The temperature is far above 30 °C and the sun is burning, so after the air-conditioned shopping stop we drive to a beach south of the city. It is marked as a campspot on park4night, but in our opinion it is way to close to the apartments and hotels at the...

Ep. 15: Macedonia - Lakeside paradise, covid detour.

Hi there! Thank you for reading our blog. After our first drug sweep experience at the albanian – north macedonian border we are looking for a campsite because it seems that direct access to the water in the area where we arrive is only possible at an official campsite. Kind of randomly we select „Camping Lakeside“ close to the village of Radožda and park our cars a couple of meters from Lake Ohrid. It is already dark when we arrive here and so the full beauty of the place is only revealed to us the next morning. Although the campsite is just a small patch of green between two private properties it has all the things you look out for:...

Ep. 14: Albania - Surprise: Drug sweep!

Welcome back to the blog. After spending a couple of nights at the cosy valley spot just below the village of Theth we pack up and continue the last stretch of the path. We think we are in for a smooth ride but the last 30 minutes of the track require our full attention. On top of some large rock steps we need to pass a couple of narrow passages. This last stretch of track (or the first if you are coming from Theth) is frequented by quite a lot of vehicles transporting visitors to the near-by Blue Eye hike starting point. We have to reverse a couple of times to find wider spots in the track to let the...

Ep. 13: Albania - The queen of offroad tracks!

Hi there! Welcome back to the blog, we appreciate you reading about our adventures. After spending a lot of time on mountain trails around the Osum Canyon and in Tomorr Nationalpark we both feel the urge to head back to the ocean again. So we push west and meet the sea somewhere at Spille Beach 20 km south of the large harbour town Durrës. We quickly learn that the beaches around here are not really what we are looking for: lots of beachside restaurants with sun chairs everywhere which are accompanied by a huge amount of trash. Well, this might be a place to relax for some people but we decide to return to the main road. On our way...

Ep. 12: Double Trouble at Baba Tomorr

Hi everybody! With the transition from May to June temperatures seem to rise strongly in Albania. While staying close to Permët our initial plan was to visit the hot springs the area is famous for. But with almost 30° C air temperature we think going to a cooler place might be the better option. Not to be misunderstood, we really like the summer but we got plenty of hot temperatures ahead of us. So what can we do to cool down a little? Going to places with with higher altitude is the fastest way to cool down. Luckily, Permët is close to some tracks leading to the Osum Canyon which is a must-see in Albania according to the internet –...
